What images are used in the broadcast? What does this suggest about the representation of the riots?
A lot of repeated images are used throughout the broadcast, primarily depicting burning buildings and gangs of hoodies. The broadcast takes place the morning after these violent acts occurred; showing the after effects of the initial riot - buildings smoking, destroyed cars and looted shops.
Most of the images feature the 'hoody' stereotype, often portraying a 'them and us' mentality between the rioters and police. The 'hoody' stereotype is something that many people associate with youth culture and therefore creates a bias, portraying them negatively.

Within the broadcast, while extremely shocking scenes are being shown the reporter describes the events as "Major Disturbances", which seems to be a very gross understatement.
Is the broadcast biased?
The broadcast does seem to be biased towards the police force "One police officer was hospitalised and seven others were injured" This is meant to evoke compassion for the police and the work they are carrying out. This also helps to create deviance amplification and moral panic as the rioters are portrayed to lack humanity; driven only by their desire to loot and vandalise.
This report takes a different approach than others as it shows the problems the police force are facing, instead of trying to mask the issues and make everything appear fine.
"Petrol bombs and stones were thrown at police as they struggled to take control"

Are youths given a fair voice?
Youths, once again are not given a fair voice and are instead only portrayed negatively through imagery.
